It will eat whatever you give it.

It’s insatiable. Indiscriminate.

No…I’m not talking about Coal. Even he has some limits.

I’m talking about TIME.

Time is a hungry beast and it will eat whatever you give it.

So what are you giving it?

I recently did a screen time audit and was shocked— SHOCKED— to see how much of it, I’d fed to my time monster.

The thing is, it wasn’t like I was intentionally sitting down to spend hours at a time on my phone, actively choosing to scroll social media.

Nope.

Those hours (and yes— hours) each day were the cumulative effect of stolen minutes.

Let me say that again: the hours that I fed my social media scrolling were the cumulative effect of minutes I’d stolen from other things.

Whoa.

5 minutes here and 10 minutes there.

That was all it took to run out of time for other things that matter to me.

Time I wanted to spend relaxing with Glenn and Coal, connecting with our little family I love so much.

Time I wanted to spend digging into education and learning, growing my skills and working my mind so that I’m the best coach and trainer I can be.

Time I wanted to spend serving the people I work with, crafting materials and tools that will make living their best lives possible.

No way was I going down like that.

I put myself through my own 12 Weeks to Wellness program and used it to change the habits that weren’t working for me.

I created a new nighttime routine that included a specific “screens off” time.

Better and more restful sleep followed immediately and evening couch time with Glenn and Coalie instantly became more connective and restorative.

I created limits around social media: I could surf a max of 3 times per day for up to 10 minutes at a time.

That’s it. No more.

30 minutes a day was all the time social media scrolling would get from me.

And you guessed…I’ve been able to think more clearly, create more, be more productive.

I’ve read so much more, which has been both energizing and restful.

It just feels better all around.

And that’s what matters, right?

So.

What are you feeding your time?

What would you like to be feeding it?

It’s up to you, you know. You get the final say in what that hungry beast eats.
